Paddy McGuigan
Paddy McGuigan is from the Falls Road in Belfast. His group,
"The Barleycorn", had a big hit in 1971 with
The Men Behind the Wire,
written by Paddy for the Civil Rights Movement. I'm told that
most of the proceeds funded The Andersonstown News, now a popular
newspaper in Belfast.
He later left the Barleycorn, but continued to write songs, including
The Boys of the Old Brigade;
Irish Soldier Laddie, which he says made money for everybody bar himself!;
The Brave United Men;
Carlingford Bay;
and Freedom Walk.
Paddy now lives just North of Dublin, by the sea.
