A History of Ireland in Song |
Desmond Fennell has long been one of the most perceptive commentators on contemporary Ireland. This book is a collection of pieces written for the, now sadly defunct, daily newspaper, The Irish Press, in the early to mid-80s. Fennell is particularly acute in exposing the hypocrisy and doublethink rife in the South in those days (and, God knows, with us still) though he never lapses into unconditional Provo-worship. Sometimes right, sometimes wrong, always thought-provoking.
