A History of Ireland in Song |
Bowyer Bell is the best contemporary writer on the IRA and the Irish "troubles". His nationality (American) gives him a valuable distance which promotes objectivity, and he lacks that tendency to ride a favourite hobby-horse into the ground which is all too evident in most native and British commentators. Though my copy ends at 1979, this book has been through successive updates to keep in pace with contemporary developments, and is still the best single volume on the Irish Republican Army.
